Lower Blepharoplasty

Candidates are typically men and women who are over the age of 40. It is less common for younger patients to seek lower eyelid surgery since they generally will not have experienced a significant loss of skin elasticity.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Many people develop pronounced eye bags, considerable skin laxity, and excess fat in the lower eyelids as they age. The most effective way to resolve these unwanted changes is with a surgical procedure called lower blepharoplasty. At the medical practice of Dr. Jason Emer in Beverly Hills, lower blepharoplasty is frequently recommended for patients who desire dramatic, long-lasting lower lid rejuvenation.

Outcomes

What is Lower Blepharoplasty?

  1. Under-eye bags

  2. Puffiness

  3. Excess skin

Right for You?

Cosmetic lower eyelid concerns in younger patients can often be resolved with non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation. However, the aging process affects everyone differently, and eye bag surgery can be an appropriate intervention for younger patients who develop puffiness and under-eye bags at an earlier age.

To be considered a good candidate for this procedure, you must be free of any health conditions that interfere with the body’s healing process. Smoking impedes healing, so you must also be a non-smoker or willing to abstain from smoking for an extended period of time.

Procedure Details

Every lower blepharoplasty procedure requires the use of anesthesia to ensure the comfort of the patient. Prior to your surgery, your options for anesthesia will be explained to you, so you and our plastic surgeon can select the best choice for your needs.

The next step is to make the necessary incisions. Incisions will be made on the inside of the eyelid or right below the lower lash line, depending on which surgical approach is optimal for you. Based on your facial structure and tissue, one of the following methods will be used:

The Doctor Emer Difference

Our holistic approach to facial enhancement consistently delivers natural looking improvements. When developing a treatment plan for a patient, we consider how rejuvenating one area of the face will affect the surrounding areas and the overall facial appearance. We strategically combine treatments that target multiple treatment areas.

Though lower blepharoplasty can be performed as a stand-alone procedure, that approach is rarely advisable when the objective is a natural, harmonious facial appearance. Instead, eye bag surgery is often combined with additional facial plastic surgeries such as upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery), facelift, and/or brow lift procedures.

Non-surgical treatments can also complement a lower blepharoplasty. Dermal fillers, neuromodulators, laser skin resurfacing, and other energy-based treatments can be used to complement a lower blepharoplasty and achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Eyelid Lift Recovery

Eyelid surgery recovery typically involves seven to 14 days of downtime. Dr. Emer will closely monitor your recovery and provide guidance regarding when you can return to work and resume your normal activities.

To accelerate the healing process following eyelid surgery, Dr. Emer recommends various restorative treatments, including IV Hydration Therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), oxygen facials, LightStim LED Light Therapy, and a customized skincare protocol.

You can expect to see initial eyelid lift results after about two weeks. Final results are typically achieved after two or three months when the area has healed completely.

Blepharoplasty results last many years. Dr. Emer can help you maintain your youthful look by recommending skincare and in-office cosmetic treatments.
