What is Female Rhinoplasty?

Female rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to create a more feminine facial appearance by recontouring the nose. Rhinoplasty, also referred to as a “nose job,” is one of the most frequently performed facial plastic surgeries for women. The popularity of female rhinoplasty is not surprising since the size and shape of the nose significantly impacts the facial appearance.

Ideally, a woman’s nose complements the features of her upper and lower face to create an aesthetic, balanced look. Unfortunately, the proportions and contours of the nose often disrupt facial harmony and detract from a woman’s natural, feminine beauty. Female surgical rhinoplasty is typically the most effective way to address this issue.

  6. Adjusting the size of the nose to better complement the facial appearance

  7. Correcting a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, or inferior turbinate hypertrophy

Femle Rhinoplasty Treatment Process

Your candidacy for female rhinoplasty can be determined during your consultation. The consultation will involve an evaluation of your facial structure and tissue; a discussion about your expectations for treatment; and a review of your medical history. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about your treatment options.

We will take your photos and review your anatomy with you. We will candidly discuss realistic goals for your rhinoplasty surgery.

We will do a full facial analysis during your consultation, and may recommend additional procedures such as chin implant or neck liposuction. The nose is taken into account with the remainder of the face to ensure the outcome is harmonious and balanced.

Female rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning you go home the same day of surgery. To begin, general anesthesia will be administered, so you remain comfortable throughout the surgery.

An “open” or “external” approach is used when performing female rhinoplasty. This technique requires an incision on the columella nasal skin as well as internal incisions.

After making the incisions, we can modify the nasal structure and/or soft tissue to accomplish your desired cosmetic and/or functional improvements. When all necessary changes are completed, the incisions will be closed with sutures.

Female rhinoplasty patients will need to take a week or two off work to recover from the procedure. In most cases, light activity can be resumed after seven days, at which time sutures can typically be removed. High intensity exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for three to six weeks.

The female rhinoplasty recovery period spans several months, though the majority of post-op swelling and bruising will dissipate after about two weeks. Patients should closely follow all aftercare instructions to support the healing process and encourage optimal results.

Female Rhinoplasty Results

You will notice improvements within a week or two of your surgery, but it will take 12-18 months for the nose to reach its final shape. During your consultation, we will speak with you about the expected recovery time for your specific procedure.

Rhinoplasty permanently alters the nasal contours. This means patients can enjoy long-lasting improvements in the appearance of the nose and/or the quality of nasal breathing.

Female rhinoplasty patients often experience an increase in self-confidence after their surgery. Many women report positive changes in their work lives and interpersonal relationships as a result of their improved self-esteem.

The same surgical techniques are used in male and female rhinoplasty. However, there are key differences between men and women that affect the approach to female rhinoplasty.

Since women have thinner nasal skin than men, even slight changes to the female nasal structure can result in noticeable changes to the appearance of the nose. This means that surgical precision is especially important when performing female rhinoplasty. Thinner nasal skin also enables us to create the more delicate, refined contours associated with a feminine nose.

Female rhinoplasty is performed with a Piezo device. This is an ultrasonic device which allows for extremely controlled contouring of the nasal bones. Since women have thinner skin than men, it is important to limit swelling and bruising and to contour the bones as precisely as possible.

Women and men tend to have very different goals for nose surgery. Feminine nasal contours are associated with distinct angles and proportions, as well as sharper definition. Our attention to these characteristics allows us to redefine the nasal shape in a way that is natural looking and aesthetically pleasing.

If you are not ready for a surgical rhinoplasty but want to recontour your nose, you may be a candidate for a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Good candidates are patients with a bump or a droopy tip. We will discuss all of your treatment options with you during your consultation.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed under topical anesthesia. The treatment involves injecting a hyaluronic acid-based filler to disguise the hump and/or to elevate the tip. Regular treatments are needed to maintain results.
